At Gomez Personal Training in Epsom, hybrid training is our version of CrossFit, designed to improve athleticism, boost performance, and enhance mental health. In my experience having not long got myself back into the fitness world I found CrossFit being my starting point, I first got in touch with Jon and the starting point for us was a field he had me running around that field. firstly, to see my general fitness and I must add what I thought I’d be able to run and what I ran were completely two different things.
I was shocked in my over-all health which then gave me more determination to sort it out and try harder each time. My progress within WEEKS went from being unable to run round the field to able to run around it a few times being left not breathless or struggling to breathe as much as I was previously.
From experience and training with Jon Weight-lifting / weights wasn’t something I was interested in at all because I didn’t want to become a bodybuilder or have the bodybuilding look being a women I just wanted to really sort my health out through fitness doing the things I particularly enjoy such like running, swimming, rowing, gymnastics; types of fitness which is mainly athletics being my more enjoyable ways to train
Weightlifting does have its benefits when it comes to strength and conditioning (Clean & Jerk and Snatch). It is good to add this to part of your fitness plan which Jon has guided me through so it hasn’t been unbearable or unenjoyable it can be fun if done in the right way.
I can now run 4-5k, I struggle to even lift my own weight at 5’6″ and 56 kg, despite being told I look athletic. As previously mentioned, weightlifting and using weights wasn’t something I wanted to do or was interested in, but after incorporating this into a hybrid-cross training program, I now use this determination to keep trying until I can perform at least three pull-ups. These are some of the tips Jon gave me, and I use them to help me strengthen myself so I can reach this goal.

Tips on getting started ⬇️
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from Jon was that rest and recovery are just as important as the training itself. It’s easy to push too hard at the start, but overtraining often leads to injury—and recovery isn’t always a quick fix. That’s why finding the right personal trainer or self-conditioning coach made such a difference in my journey. It wasn’t just about working hard, but working smart—with a plan that delivers maximum results.
Hybrid training in Epsom provided the perfect balance. It’s a flexible, adaptable approach that meets a wide range of goals. As a modern-day learner, I found that the variety within hybrid training kept me engaged and consistent. That variety—paired with expert guidance—was the key to my success training with Jon. Whether it was strength work, conditioning, or mobility, hybrid training gave me the structure and support I needed to thrive.
